Apples in New York

So I was bored and I found this contest on Figment.com, well I was originally going to post this so that you guys could enter the contest as well but I lost track of time and didn’t realize just when the contest ended. I got mine in before then however, and if you feel like reading something or feel like joining a really awesome writing community you should go check it out.

My contest entry  is here: http://figment.com/books/149054-Apples-in-New-York and you should check it out. If you click on the tag you can get the rest of the stories submitted. I highly recommend you read some of them, not just mine because some are really good. And if you like them I suggest you heart them, though you have to get a figment account to do that. But it’s worth it, because the site is really quite fun. If you want the original stipulations for the contest and much more you should go to the contests tab on the top of the site.

In other news, the NaNoWriMo site is up and running and is reset for the next round of Nano… yay! 17 days! I you wanna do it you should go sign up at http://www.nanowrimo.org OR if you are 17 or younger go to http://www.ywp.nanowrimo.org for the Young Writer’s Program. It is very fun, and I am attempting the impossible. I’m doing two at once. So that should be interesting… I’ll keep you posted. Hope you all are having fun writing, reading, or other fun stuff!

My Week

So this week has been a little hectic, from the power outages to Pottermore, and getting ready for school to start. I have been very busy. As of right now I am working on a short story I guess, for a contest that I found online. The parameters of the contest are: It has to be under 1500 words, and it has to involve some one finding something magical and it either gives them or has magical powers. This contest can be found at this site: http://blog.figment.com/2011/08/30/the-magical-contest/ and you can get more information from there. I am currently 366 words in and I already have a good idea of where to go with it.

But there’s actually doing something with it and wanting to do something with it. So I should stop writing this, and go write that. But first: I have to figure out how to fix this picture that I want for the Cover Pic. because if I don’t, I’m going to go insane. If you all can’t tell by now, I’m not good with computers, they are complicated, they give me headaches, and they all seem to hate me. So this may take a while *sighs*. If I had money I would hire someone to do all of the techy stuff for me, but I don’t have money. So I can’t hire someone, currently my friend is taking pitty on me and doing it for me… got to love having friends. Well anyway, I need to finish this, and go to sleep because it’s 5am and I haven’t slept yet.

Also, when I post the short story I’ll pop a link up here, or on my wordpress, or maybe even on my tumblr. I’ll also tell you if I win or not, (may or may not be likely). I suggest if you wanna participate or help vote you get an account, and vote or write! It’s fun, I promise. Other than that, I just learned how to use photobucket! Woo Hoo.

Updates

So I haven’t been updating this as frequently as I used to… Why you ask? Because I have been really busy, and my computer decided that I needed a new version of flash that IE 8 didn’t support. So in short, I’ve had to download a new browser, and the new flash, and learn how to use both… So yeah, it’s been an eventful week. I also, went swimming, though that didn’t last long because it was freezing in the pool, and I don’t like cold things. I am a summer girl, who prefers the 90 degree days as opposed to the 60 degree days of fall or below.

Other than that, I’ve been writing, and failing at writing and then deciding that my friend should just rewrite basically everything and then we can become co-writers. Which would be awesome!  That way we could both get paid for it (assuming anyone bought it), and we could both have claim to the money, but that would require a book first so… that has to happen, which means I need to stop writing this and maybe write that.

But I have also been reading a ton of books, so those have to make it onto here as well. So I am going to direct you to my Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/tonks4life there you will find my profile, and a link to my currently reading shelf… which should be self explanatory but if it’s not, you can find all of the books I’m currently reading on there. And I’ll cross post the reviews once I’m finished with the books. Alright that’s all I’ve got right now so get back to you later!!

Headaches, writing, and other fun stuffs

So I am sitting in my chair with the worst headache I’ve ever had, trying not to vomit and writing. Why am I telling you this? Because I needed something to make my brain work and this was the only thing that was working. I have to finish writing this current project before November, and it isn’t going too well. I have ideas for it, and I know where I’m going for it but finding time to write when I’m not busy, or sick, or doing something else that needs to get done is difficult.

So as of right now, I am struggling to write more with a pounding headache and I feel like I am producing some pretty weird shtuff. For example, I was talking to my friend and I came up with a new word. “Unobserveyness” is my new word that I shall use when I don’t notice something… yup. Well anyway, back to painfully trying to write and post and other fun stuffs like that.

Last.fm

I just downloaded this radio thing from http://www.last.fm and I must say it is kind of awesome. I for one like the fact that it can go into my Windows Media Player and see what songs I listen to and recommend songs based on that. I’m currently listening to Amy Lee Radio, which is playing artists in the same genre and that are similar to Amy Lee the lead singer of Evanescence. Which is kinda cool. I would totally suggest using this site if you are looking for song recommendations. Or new artist recommendations, because they also give you links as to where you can buy the mp3’s and cd’s. (It’s mostly Amazon.com but still its helpful).

It’s also great if you need inspiring music to help you write a novel (which is what I’m currently doing), but are too bored with your own music collection. I have gotten at least thre more paragraphs since I started listening to this thing. Now is that going to work for everyone? probably not. But still it’s a suggestion.

New Songs!

So  I like this band called Evanescence, and they just came out with a new song! The song is called “What You Want” and it’s off of their new self titled CD that comes out on October 11th. The song can be found on iTunes, and you can listen to it for free on Evanescence’s website at http://www.evanescence.com you can also log in to the site with your wordpress account by using OpenID, what that does I’m not really sure but it’s there. I absolutely love this new song, and all of their other songs as well, so I can’t wait to get my hands on the cd. Too bad I don’t have enough money for it.

But if you do have enough money for it, I would recommend buying it. Or at least checking it out. Just think you may find that you have a new favorite band. I know that even after only listening to one song I was hooked but that was a couple of years ago. In other news I have currently started editting someone else’s story, and signed on for a peer editting project for a friend, and I am making slow progress on my current project. Which I good, but I’m going to have a very busy August and begining of September, especially because I also have to start my college essays.

Our typical tuesday

Hey so I just finished up an awesome day with some of my awesome friends. We rolled coins and played Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and Rummy. The result was me losing both games…. and us making a really weird video for my friend’s vlog which can be found at the link below. I would recommend looking for the video I don’t exactly know when it will be posted but I think it should be posted by either today or thursday. This was a fun day of relaxing during my crazy Camp Nanowrimo and editting thing. Maybe I’ll get something done later, but as of right now I’m in a relaxing kind of mood.

Well that’s all I got for now… check back later for more

The headache that is editting

So I have been editting one of my past works for Camp Nanowrimo, because I had to finish it, and I have found that within the first two paragraphs I must have used the word “that” about 16 times. It was very annoying and repetitive, and a very big problem for my story. So I have been going through and taking out more “that”s. I was wondering if anyone else has found that they have a signature word that they use all the time? So if you do, comment, if you have fun editting stories, comment. If  you have anything, comment.

The point is, comment. Because I’m bored, editting is brutal and I need a break from reading the same thing over and over again. I’m not saying that it will not be worth it when it’s finished, because it probably will be worth the work. But as of right now, I am really bored and waiting for dinner, and hoping that this will just magically edit itself. Granted there are a few funny parts, like realizing the little narrator voice keeps switching from British to French to Southern, and noticing that Sammi sounds really really hyper. And other stuff like that.

Well that’s all I can think to say, so comment if you feel like it, back to editting until my eyes bleed. Okay that’s a little bit graphic, so just ignore that and think of cute Unicorns. Unless you’re Astrid from Diana Peterfreund’s Killer Unicorn books, because that would be bad. You know what I’m just going to stop before I completely offend the entire world.

Camp Nanowrimo: August edition

So I am taking full advantage of the August Camp Nanowrimo, even though I just did the July Camp Nanowrimo. Why you ask? Because I had a project that needs finishing and editting. It will probably be really terrible when I go to read it,  which might result in me rewriting the entire thing. I’ll be updating the word count after I edit the entire thing and continue with finishing it. You will see these updates on the side of the blog, through the word count widgets.

These word count widgets were coded by Diana Peterfreund for her website: http://www.dianapeterfreund.com , but she was gracious enough to email the coding to me and tell me how to edit them to fit my blog. Anyway, the word count widget you should direct your attention to is the one in the middle, titled Utano: A Rivalry Turns Dangerous this title is subject to change however so if it randomly changes, don’t be alarmed. If you wish to join me in my quest to make a novel you should do Camp Nanowrimo found here: http://www.campnanowrimo.org .  Well have fun I must go wait for Pottermore and then poof to bed.

Oh okay I forgot something on here so I’m adding an addendum: The title that is subject to change, I’m open to suggestions so if you wanna provide some title suggestions, feel free to comment!

Writing Class

Okay so I went to this writing class at my library, and it was actually very helpful. The author that came to talk to us was Eric Luper, and he actually had some very good tips, including a list of No-Nonsense rules for writing, and awesome writing prompts. He also suggested keeping a journal or a blog of some sort. Oh hey look at this, it’s a blog…. well isn’t that funny. So what was the point of this? I really have no idea again, but if you like to write he did suggest a writer’s camp at Skidmore College in New York, and that he found his agent at a convention in Lake Placid. I thought this would be interesting information for anyone.

I said last time that I was working on a Camp Nanowrimo project, but that’s just one of many, I will code the rest of my word count widgets on my off time when I get the chance. August is definitely my month for finishing Nanowrimo project 2010, and then in November it’s Nanowrimo 2011. I’ll keep you all updated though I don’t know who reads it. For my summaries and other fun stuff, my nanowrimo site is http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/483788 , and my Camp Nanowrimo is http://www.campnanowrimo.org/campers/booklover900. Have fun!!
