Wild Magic

Wild Magic (Immortals, #1)Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay so upon re-reading this book for the third time, I came to realize that I never did a goodreads review for it. As the stars can suggest, I absolutely love this book. Why you ask? Well I don’t really know, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Well let’s start at the begining and go from there.

This is book one in The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce, who is and amazing author. It follows an funny, yet somewhat clueless at times, girl who is hiding a secret she thinks is very dangerous. And I suppose when you look at her past, it can be. But then she meets Onua, a pony collector for The Queen’s Riders of Tortall, who is sarcastic, and altogether awesome. She comes with her own pony Cloud, the only friend she has left, and comes to work for Onua.

On their way to deliver said ponies in comes a hawk, and thus the trouble begins. Now, I’m pretty much summarizing the book from this point up. So I’ll get to saying why I like it so much. One: Daine is awesome, and a wild mage. Two: Numair, the hawk that causes so much trouble, is adorable and funny. Three: Skysong is the most adorable thing in the world. Four: I love action packed books that keep me excited and laughing with every page.

Last.fm

I just downloaded this radio thing from http://www.last.fm and I must say it is kind of awesome. I for one like the fact that it can go into my Windows Media Player and see what songs I listen to and recommend songs based on that. I’m currently listening to Amy Lee Radio, which is playing artists in the same genre and that are similar to Amy Lee the lead singer of Evanescence. Which is kinda cool. I would totally suggest using this site if you are looking for song recommendations. Or new artist recommendations, because they also give you links as to where you can buy the mp3’s and cd’s. (It’s mostly Amazon.com but still its helpful).

It’s also great if you need inspiring music to help you write a novel (which is what I’m currently doing), but are too bored with your own music collection. I have gotten at least thre more paragraphs since I started listening to this thing. Now is that going to work for everyone? probably not. But still it’s a suggestion.

The Scorpio Races Contest

Why hello there everyone, I was just reading a blog post by the amazing author of The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, which I happen to love. She just announced a contest to get an advanced copy of her latest book. Which is due to come out one day before my birthday, on October 18th, (this can be found on the goodreads page for The Scorpio Races). What do I have to do? Well I have to write this post and embed the book trailer on it. So that is what I shall do. But first I’m going to mention this site:  http://www.fountainbookstore.com/autograph-maggie which is where you can pre-order the signed copy of the book. Now back to embedding the vid.

Let’s see if that worked…. woo hoo! It worked… well have fun watching the vid, and check out the rest of her books. You can find her site here: http://maggiestiefvater.com/

New Songs!

So  I like this band called Evanescence, and they just came out with a new song! The song is called “What You Want” and it’s off of their new self titled CD that comes out on October 11th. The song can be found on iTunes, and you can listen to it for free on Evanescence’s website at http://www.evanescence.com you can also log in to the site with your wordpress account by using OpenID, what that does I’m not really sure but it’s there. I absolutely love this new song, and all of their other songs as well, so I can’t wait to get my hands on the cd. Too bad I don’t have enough money for it.

But if you do have enough money for it, I would recommend buying it. Or at least checking it out. Just think you may find that you have a new favorite band. I know that even after only listening to one song I was hooked but that was a couple of years ago. In other news I have currently started editting someone else’s story, and signed on for a peer editting project for a friend, and I am making slow progress on my current project. Which I good, but I’m going to have a very busy August and begining of September, especially because I also have to start my college essays.

Our typical tuesday

Hey so I just finished up an awesome day with some of my awesome friends. We rolled coins and played Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and Rummy. The result was me losing both games…. and us making a really weird video for my friend’s vlog which can be found at the link below. I would recommend looking for the video I don’t exactly know when it will be posted but I think it should be posted by either today or thursday. This was a fun day of relaxing during my crazy Camp Nanowrimo and editting thing. Maybe I’ll get something done later, but as of right now I’m in a relaxing kind of mood.

Well that’s all I got for now… check back later for more

Say hello to my Sidebar

Okay so, I realize that this probably sounds like a very stupid topic for a blog post but I am bored and I feel like walking you through this blog. Sort of like a virtual tour only not. So where to start… Well we’ll start with the Sidebar because that’s the title of the post. On the side bar there are a number of widgets, some of them are available on any wordpress blog, and others are my own special widgets put in a text box.

Starting at the top of the side bar we have my 2011 Goodreads Reading Challenge count, this is a counter for all of the books I read in 2011 and if I meet my goal or not. I personally like this because it’s making me focus on finishing all of the books that I have to return to the people I borrowed them from. This is hosted by one of my favorite sites, called Goodreads and I suggest you check it out. I have probably mentioned this site about 10o times on this blog, so it shouldn’t be unfamiliar to anyone who actually reads this.

After the Goodreads counter is my long list of Word Counters. These were coded by Diana Peterfreund for her website which can be found here: http://www.dianapeterfreund.com .  Which I am very thankful for because I cannot code things at all, I am terrible at it. Anyway, these word count widgets show my current progress on books that I am writting, will they be published? Probably not. But still it’s nice to have a word count widget for them anyway. In order from top to bottom, the widgets are for my various Nanowrimo projects. The top widget is my latest attempt at Nanowrimo, this is a short story collection from my Utano universe. The next is 2010’s Nanowrimo, this is my first “book” in the Utano series that I had envisioned. And the third and final word count widget is for Sam’s Story, a story that I still have tons of ideas for. This last one was Nanowrimo 2009, and I think this one would be the one I would end up finishing. I shall keep you all updated on how it’s going and whether or not I’m going to publish. If I am not and you want to read anything I have a way on here to share them with you down lower on this sidebar which I will get to later. So comment or find a way to get at me some other way, and I shall throw them up there. Now moving on…

After the Word Count widgets are pretty little picture that have a title saying Fun Roleplaying Sites, these are sites that my friend and I use to get rid of our creative thoughts. If you go to the pictures and click on them they will take you to the sites and on the sites you will find a better description of what to do. These are very good for relieving boredom, and making friends, and getting ideas for writing. This is my way of advertising for the sites so go CHECK THEM OUT!

Next is this thing called The Box, and it is used for sharing files, so this is where I would put my stories should anyone want to read them. And the rest is really self explanitory. But there are two other things I would like to turn your attention to, they are both the other two pages found at the top of the blog. One is About the site, this is pretty much useless, so you don’t really have to look at it unless you really want to. But there is also the Amazing Books page, which says what my favorite books are of the time, if you are ever looking for book suggestions I suggest you look at that tab. These pages will probably be added to or changed over the years, but that is only when I feel like doing site updates.

Well that’s all I have right now… have fun surfing the site.

The headache that is editing

So I have been editing one of my past works for Camp Nanowrimo, because I had to finish it, and I have found that within the first two paragraphs I must have used the word “that” about 16 times. It was very annoying and repetitive, and a very big problem for my story. So I have been going through and taking out more “that”s. I was wondering if anyone else has found that they have a signature word that they use all the time? So if you do, comment, if you have fun editing stories, comment. If  you have anything, comment.

The point is, comment. Because I’m bored, editing is brutal and I need a break from reading the same thing over and over again. I’m not saying that it will not be worth it when it’s finished, because it probably will be worth the work. But as of right now, I am really bored and waiting for dinner, and hoping that this will just magically edit itself. Granted there are a few funny parts, like realizing the little narrator voice keeps switching from British to French to Southern, and noticing that Sammi sounds really really hyper. And other stuff like that.

Well that’s all I can think to say, so comment if you feel like it, back to editing until my eyes bleed. Okay that’s a little bit graphic, so just ignore that and think of cute Unicorns. Unless you’re Astrid from Diana Peterfreund’s Killer Unicorn books, because that would be bad. You know what I’m just going to stop before I completely offend the entire world.

Monster High: The Ghoul Next Door

The Ghoul Next Door (Monster High, #2)The Ghoul Next Door by Lisi Harrison

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is just as good as the first one. It continues the desperate plot to try and get the RAD’s out in the open with exciting twists and turns. I was turning pages faster than I knew I could read. From the crazy characters, to the eye oppening secrets that come out in this book. I highly recommend this book and can not wait for the next book in this series.

Now I know most people would probably think that Monster High is just another highschool drama book that isn’t that great. Well it is just a high school drama book, but it is also very funny, and I happen to love it. Why? I don’t really know, probably because I needed a pick me up book and this made me laugh. And also because I would love to step into the shoes of any of these characters.

Camp Nanowrimo: August edition

So I am taking full advantage of the August Camp Nanowrimo, even though I just did the July Camp Nanowrimo. Why you ask? Because I had a project that needs finishing and editting. It will probably be really terrible when I go to read it,  which might result in me rewriting the entire thing. I’ll be updating the word count after I edit the entire thing and continue with finishing it. You will see these updates on the side of the blog, through the word count widgets.

These word count widgets were coded by Diana Peterfreund for her website: http://www.dianapeterfreund.com , but she was gracious enough to email the coding to me and tell me how to edit them to fit my blog. Anyway, the word count widget you should direct your attention to is the one in the middle, titled Utano: A Rivalry Turns Dangerous this title is subject to change however so if it randomly changes, don’t be alarmed. If you wish to join me in my quest to make a novel you should do Camp Nanowrimo found here: http://www.campnanowrimo.org .  Well have fun I must go wait for Pottermore and then poof to bed.

Oh okay I forgot something on here so I’m adding an addendum: The title that is subject to change, I’m open to suggestions so if you wanna provide some title suggestions, feel free to comment!

Cake magnificence

made by my sister and I.

So me and my sister were bored and we decided to bake a cake. Now the baking went really well. Until it decided to completely fall apart. So we tried our best to patch it up with the frosting that we were putting on it. The result? Me making a complete mess, and ending up doing the whole thing by myself. I mananged to piece it back together quite nicely don’t you think?

Well after we had the breaking disaster, we got to frosting the rest of the cake and that’s why it’s such as train wreck because we’ve never frosted a cake before. After we finished making the chocolate cake green, we decided to split up the cake and each decorate a half of the cake. The result is what you see next to this text.
My half is the one that you see with the sign of the Deathly Hallows, the orange pawprint (meant to represent Crookshanks’ paw), and a few other things. So what do you think? Got any pics of cakes that you’ve made yourself? If so I say you post them in the comments if you can, or maybe just make a link to a pic.
