My goodreads account.

So it was pointed out to me that I didn’t have my goodreads set to public so who ever went to my profile page couldn’t see it. Well now that is fixed so feel free to click on the link and go get book recommendations from me. Yup! so here’s the link: http://www.goodreads.com/tonks4life sorry that that wasn’t working before.

You can get book recommendations and follow good authors or get book recommendations from the authors. You can also give book recommendations or you can make your own reviews and have your own book blog or review session…. or whatever. It’s more fun with friends too!

I was not paid for or made to give this advertisement and goodreads is a free site. So if you think this is done because I have to or is one of THOSE blogs, you’re wrong. I’m not trying to sell you anything, though if I were to try and sell you anything it would be this AWESOME glow in the dark nail polish that I’m wearing. It is from Hot Topic and can be found and ordered at http://www.hottopic.com and don’t worry about the fact that it says black light, it works in any light and when you turn the light off it actually glows. But it has to be charged kinda… well anyway. I’m getting off topic.

To Kill a Mocking Bird Review

To Kill a MockingbirdTo Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I had to read this for school, and I didn’t even really finish it because to be honest. I got really bored with it after a while. And I felt like it just dragged on for FOREVER! And I had like so many other things that I was reading at the time that I read it the first time, and other things to focus on that this didn’t really grab my attention.

I’m not saying it’s horrible and that you shouldn’t read it, but I’m saying for me it was boring and not my style. I can’t read historical fiction either… or MOST realistic fiction. Even though I can write them quite well… I feel like the whole “We have to read books that deal with racism cuz it’s bad” thing is a little old. I mean yes, it is bad, and yes we should reinforce it every so often but after a while most of us tend to get the point…

I feel like people are going to yell at me for saying that but really I don’t mean it isn’t important I just mean that not ALL of us are horrible to people and the world is NOT going to end if we skip a year of racial tolerance reinforcement in English class.

So that is what I think made me not like this book as much. Maybe if I read it again I will like it better but as of right now, it wasn’t my favorite….

Twilight Review

Twilight (Twilight, #1)Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Okay so I know you can see how I rated this book, and how it is the lowest star. So you can probably tell that I disliked this book greatly. But I will not be cruel to twilight, because that is just terrible and mean. SO to put it nicely: If you like reading books with a main female character who is completely dependent on their boyfriend, and totally useless, in almost all aspects, and is someone who can’t get a hold of their emotions in anyway shape or form. Then you should read this book.

BUT if you like books with a strong female character, that can fend for herself, knows what she wants, though isn’t afraid to ask for help when she needs it. Then you should read Tamora Pierce‘s books because all of those things can be found. Along with absolutely ADORABLE guys that are much more worth the book crushes than Edward, Jacob, Sam, and Seth combined. (Though Sam and Seth are really very adorable… And probably the only redeemable characters from this book)

The last thing I will mention is that to me Edward sounds like a mutant mosquito person. For my reasoning behind this post a comment and I will make a blog post on my blog.

Pottermore

So I just got my Pottermore Email, and I’ve made my way through the first chapter of the first book on Pottermore. It is really very interesting because some of the stuff that’s on there is interesting, and it made me have to go read the first book again. In re-reading the first book, I have discovered that Aunt Petunia is blonde. I know that I read the book before I saw the movie but the fact that they came out at the same time probably just made me think that she was brunette.

I have also started re-reading The Immortals Series by Tamora Pierce, and I noticed that Jonathan has a beard. I never noticed that before, and I never would have pictured him with a beard. So my question is, has this ever happened to anyone? Have you ever pictured a character one way, and then realized that that’s totally not how he or she is described? Comment with your answers, if you give a character name, title and author please? I’m always looking for good suggestions…

Wild Magic

Wild Magic (Immortals, #1)Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay so upon re-reading this book for the third time, I came to realize that I never did a goodreads review for it. As the stars can suggest, I absolutely love this book. Why you ask? Well I don’t really know, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Well let’s start at the begining and go from there.

This is book one in The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce, who is and amazing author. It follows an funny, yet somewhat clueless at times, girl who is hiding a secret she thinks is very dangerous. And I suppose when you look at her past, it can be. But then she meets Onua, a pony collector for The Queen’s Riders of Tortall, who is sarcastic, and altogether awesome. She comes with her own pony Cloud, the only friend she has left, and comes to work for Onua.

On their way to deliver said ponies in comes a hawk, and thus the trouble begins. Now, I’m pretty much summarizing the book from this point up. So I’ll get to saying why I like it so much. One: Daine is awesome, and a wild mage. Two: Numair, the hawk that causes so much trouble, is adorable and funny. Three: Skysong is the most adorable thing in the world. Four: I love action packed books that keep me excited and laughing with every page.

The Scorpio Races Contest

Why hello there everyone, I was just reading a blog post by the amazing author of The Wolves of Mercy Falls series, which I happen to love. She just announced a contest to get an advanced copy of her latest book. Which is due to come out one day before my birthday, on October 18th, (this can be found on the goodreads page for The Scorpio Races). What do I have to do? Well I have to write this post and embed the book trailer on it. So that is what I shall do. But first I’m going to mention this site:  http://www.fountainbookstore.com/autograph-maggie which is where you can pre-order the signed copy of the book. Now back to embedding the vid.

Let’s see if that worked…. woo hoo! It worked… well have fun watching the vid, and check out the rest of her books. You can find her site here: http://maggiestiefvater.com/

Monster High: The Ghoul Next Door

The Ghoul Next Door (Monster High, #2)The Ghoul Next Door by Lisi Harrison

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is just as good as the first one. It continues the desperate plot to try and get the RAD’s out in the open with exciting twists and turns. I was turning pages faster than I knew I could read. From the crazy characters, to the eye oppening secrets that come out in this book. I highly recommend this book and can not wait for the next book in this series.

Now I know most people would probably think that Monster High is just another highschool drama book that isn’t that great. Well it is just a high school drama book, but it is also very funny, and I happen to love it. Why? I don’t really know, probably because I needed a pick me up book and this made me laugh. And also because I would love to step into the shoes of any of these characters.

Camp Nanowrimo: August edition

So I am taking full advantage of the August Camp Nanowrimo, even though I just did the July Camp Nanowrimo. Why you ask? Because I had a project that needs finishing and editting. It will probably be really terrible when I go to read it,  which might result in me rewriting the entire thing. I’ll be updating the word count after I edit the entire thing and continue with finishing it. You will see these updates on the side of the blog, through the word count widgets.

These word count widgets were coded by Diana Peterfreund for her website: http://www.dianapeterfreund.com , but she was gracious enough to email the coding to me and tell me how to edit them to fit my blog. Anyway, the word count widget you should direct your attention to is the one in the middle, titled Utano: A Rivalry Turns Dangerous this title is subject to change however so if it randomly changes, don’t be alarmed. If you wish to join me in my quest to make a novel you should do Camp Nanowrimo found here: http://www.campnanowrimo.org .  Well have fun I must go wait for Pottermore and then poof to bed.

Oh okay I forgot something on here so I’m adding an addendum: The title that is subject to change, I’m open to suggestions so if you wanna provide some title suggestions, feel free to comment!

Cake magnificence

made by my sister and I.

So me and my sister were bored and we decided to bake a cake. Now the baking went really well. Until it decided to completely fall apart. So we tried our best to patch it up with the frosting that we were putting on it. The result? Me making a complete mess, and ending up doing the whole thing by myself. I mananged to piece it back together quite nicely don’t you think?

Well after we had the breaking disaster, we got to frosting the rest of the cake and that’s why it’s such as train wreck because we’ve never frosted a cake before. After we finished making the chocolate cake green, we decided to split up the cake and each decorate a half of the cake. The result is what you see next to this text.
My half is the one that you see with the sign of the Deathly Hallows, the orange pawprint (meant to represent Crookshanks’ paw), and a few other things. So what do you think? Got any pics of cakes that you’ve made yourself? If so I say you post them in the comments if you can, or maybe just make a link to a pic.
