NaNoWriMo Day 13

So it’s day 13 of NaNoWriMo and I’m technically supposed to be at 21666 and I am only at 6609, but you know what, I don’t really care because I have a college essay to finish and homework that I have to do. But first I thought I’d see if anyone else was having better luck with NaNoWriMo than I was. Anyone have word counts? Or questions?

haha I love how I’m asking this like I have actual followers, well if I do, and you feel like commenting with your questions or comments about NaNoWriMo and it’s AWESOMENESS! I’ll post a new post with the answers to the questions, and reply to the comments on this post. Also, if you want to read my NaNoWriMo so far, I’m keeping it updated on Figment.com and the link is here: http://figment.com/books/167078-The-History-of-Utano and you can also ask questions about that, on here too. When I have time to remember what I need to edit on my word count widgets to get them to look all awesome and stuff I’ll post one for this. Maybe one day, I’ll actually do something with them and get them published, but they have to be good enough first.

The Canterbury Tales

The Canterbury TalesThe Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I don’t really like this style of writing, mostly because I’m not a fan of verse. The other reason I didn’t necessarily like this was because some of the stories were just kind of, vulgar, and really disgusting. I read this for British Literature in school, and we had to do projects on it, and I don’t really know why I disliked it as much as I did. I mean was it interesting in some parts, but others it was too much, or just wasn’t finished.

I guess it was just not my style…

NaNoWriMo 2011

Hey all so NaNoWriMo starts this Tuesday and I’m totally freaking out about it! I can’t wait but then again I’m so stressed, I have to finish a college essay and get it edited and then re-write and submit. So I’m a little bit stressed right now because not only that, I have homework on top of it all.

So the point is… If I’m not reviewing books or doing much of anything on here, that’s why… I’m sorry, if you have any special requests you can just post a comment and I’ll try to post on it if I have time. But other than that, I’m going to busy… Sorry again if you’re waiting for something.

My goodreads account.

So it was pointed out to me that I didn’t have my goodreads set to public so who ever went to my profile page couldn’t see it. Well now that is fixed so feel free to click on the link and go get book recommendations from me. Yup! so here’s the link: http://www.goodreads.com/tonks4life sorry that that wasn’t working before.

You can get book recommendations and follow good authors or get book recommendations from the authors. You can also give book recommendations or you can make your own reviews and have your own book blog or review session…. or whatever. It’s more fun with friends too!

I was not paid for or made to give this advertisement and goodreads is a free site. So if you think this is done because I have to or is one of THOSE blogs, you’re wrong. I’m not trying to sell you anything, though if I were to try and sell you anything it would be this AWESOME glow in the dark nail polish that I’m wearing. It is from Hot Topic and can be found and ordered at http://www.hottopic.com and don’t worry about the fact that it says black light, it works in any light and when you turn the light off it actually glows. But it has to be charged kinda… well anyway. I’m getting off topic.

To Kill a Mocking Bird Review

To Kill a MockingbirdTo Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I had to read this for school, and I didn’t even really finish it because to be honest. I got really bored with it after a while. And I felt like it just dragged on for FOREVER! And I had like so many other things that I was reading at the time that I read it the first time, and other things to focus on that this didn’t really grab my attention.

I’m not saying it’s horrible and that you shouldn’t read it, but I’m saying for me it was boring and not my style. I can’t read historical fiction either… or MOST realistic fiction. Even though I can write them quite well… I feel like the whole “We have to read books that deal with racism cuz it’s bad” thing is a little old. I mean yes, it is bad, and yes we should reinforce it every so often but after a while most of us tend to get the point…

I feel like people are going to yell at me for saying that but really I don’t mean it isn’t important I just mean that not ALL of us are horrible to people and the world is NOT going to end if we skip a year of racial tolerance reinforcement in English class.

So that is what I think made me not like this book as much. Maybe if I read it again I will like it better but as of right now, it wasn’t my favorite….

Twilight Review

Twilight (Twilight, #1)Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Okay so I know you can see how I rated this book, and how it is the lowest star. So you can probably tell that I disliked this book greatly. But I will not be cruel to twilight, because that is just terrible and mean. SO to put it nicely: If you like reading books with a main female character who is completely dependent on their boyfriend, and totally useless, in almost all aspects, and is someone who can’t get a hold of their emotions in anyway shape or form. Then you should read this book.

BUT if you like books with a strong female character, that can fend for herself, knows what she wants, though isn’t afraid to ask for help when she needs it. Then you should read Tamora Pierce‘s books because all of those things can be found. Along with absolutely ADORABLE guys that are much more worth the book crushes than Edward, Jacob, Sam, and Seth combined. (Though Sam and Seth are really very adorable… And probably the only redeemable characters from this book)

The last thing I will mention is that to me Edward sounds like a mutant mosquito person. For my reasoning behind this post a comment and I will make a blog post on my blog.

Pottermore

So I just got my Pottermore Email, and I’ve made my way through the first chapter of the first book on Pottermore. It is really very interesting because some of the stuff that’s on there is interesting, and it made me have to go read the first book again. In re-reading the first book, I have discovered that Aunt Petunia is blonde. I know that I read the book before I saw the movie but the fact that they came out at the same time probably just made me think that she was brunette.

I have also started re-reading The Immortals Series by Tamora Pierce, and I noticed that Jonathan has a beard. I never noticed that before, and I never would have pictured him with a beard. So my question is, has this ever happened to anyone? Have you ever pictured a character one way, and then realized that that’s totally not how he or she is described? Comment with your answers, if you give a character name, title and author please? I’m always looking for good suggestions…

Updates

So I haven’t been updating this as frequently as I used to… Why you ask? Because I have been really busy, and my computer decided that I needed a new version of flash that IE 8 didn’t support. So in short, I’ve had to download a new browser, and the new flash, and learn how to use both… So yeah, it’s been an eventful week. I also, went swimming, though that didn’t last long because it was freezing in the pool, and I don’t like cold things. I am a summer girl, who prefers the 90 degree days as opposed to the 60 degree days of fall or below.

Other than that, I’ve been writing, and failing at writing and then deciding that my friend should just rewrite basically everything and then we can become co-writers. Which would be awesome!  That way we could both get paid for it (assuming anyone bought it), and we could both have claim to the money, but that would require a book first so… that has to happen, which means I need to stop writing this and maybe write that.

But I have also been reading a ton of books, so those have to make it onto here as well. So I am going to direct you to my Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/tonks4life there you will find my profile, and a link to my currently reading shelf… which should be self explanatory but if it’s not, you can find all of the books I’m currently reading on there. And I’ll cross post the reviews once I’m finished with the books. Alright that’s all I’ve got right now so get back to you later!!

Wild Magic

Wild Magic (Immortals, #1)Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay so upon re-reading this book for the third time, I came to realize that I never did a goodreads review for it. As the stars can suggest, I absolutely love this book. Why you ask? Well I don’t really know, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Well let’s start at the begining and go from there.

This is book one in The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce, who is and amazing author. It follows an funny, yet somewhat clueless at times, girl who is hiding a secret she thinks is very dangerous. And I suppose when you look at her past, it can be. But then she meets Onua, a pony collector for The Queen’s Riders of Tortall, who is sarcastic, and altogether awesome. She comes with her own pony Cloud, the only friend she has left, and comes to work for Onua.

On their way to deliver said ponies in comes a hawk, and thus the trouble begins. Now, I’m pretty much summarizing the book from this point up. So I’ll get to saying why I like it so much. One: Daine is awesome, and a wild mage. Two: Numair, the hawk that causes so much trouble, is adorable and funny. Three: Skysong is the most adorable thing in the world. Four: I love action packed books that keep me excited and laughing with every page.
