Camp NaNoWriMo 2012

Hey so this year the people who host NaNoWriMo are doing Camp NaNowrimo again. This time they’re doing it in June (that’s 14 days away people) and August. It’s basically the same thing as NaNoWriMo, only this one doesn’t interfere with school nearly as much as the other one. Which is why I recommend that if you have ever felt the need to get a story out there, of some sort all you students do it for Camp. It’s still the basic 50,000 word novel in a month, though some people do edits of other novels in 30 days. Or if you’re doing it in August 31 days (that extra day WILL make all the difference). It doesn’t cost anything and it’s put on by the lovely people at the Office of Letters and Light, AND there are goodies that you win if you get the goal. This badge that I have:  is one of those incentives. But there are others.

This year I’m editing/rewriting a previous NaNo novel. Also, come donate to Office of Letters and Light (a completely non-profit organization), and sponsor me by going to this website: http://www.stayclassy.org/fundraise?fcid=199667

You can also find the link on my sponsor me badge my profile http://campnanowrimo.org/campers/booklover900 feel free to come join me!

Or you can got straight to http://www.campnanowrimo.org and sign up, or donate. If you do feel free to check out my story and message me if you need encouragement or a writing partner! Have fun, hope to see you joining me!

Skulduggery Pleasant

Skulduggery Pleasant (Skulduggery Pleasant, #1)Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dude I love this! It was so funny! But I did see a lot of parallels to other things that I’ve read or seen. One parallel I didn’t appreciate was the one to Sanctuary, mostly because the show isn’t on and I want it to be. But also because they came out at the same time so it seemed very “hm… so who got the idea from whom?” (please don’t correct my grammar, it’s spring break).

Other than that, I thought it was wonderful and hilarious. The other comparison that I saw was a very Harry Potterish battle at the end but much funnier, and the “witty banter” between Serpine and Skulduggery was just amusing. But by far, my favorite part was the short story in the extras, it was hilarious. I felt bad for poor Scaramouch…

Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton

Blood Magic (Blood Journals, #1)Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was absolutely amazing! I loved it! Nicolas reminds me of Nikola Tesla from Sanctuary, purely because of the what he wears and the hair gel, and the flask. Though Tesla would have wine… But other than that, it was very good plot wise as well. I loved all of the twists and turns and the puzzle that was figuring out who was who and who did what. The way it’s written sort of just drags you into the story, and you want to find out what happened with Josephine and Phillip and then Silla’s dad and Nicolas’ mother. I particularly love the ending, not that I will actually give that away, but it was good, and there were lots of tears… but then again I’m overly sappy and cry at everything so take that as you will.

This is also, a book by one of Maggie Stiefvater’s critique partners, and I must say that her book blurb on the top is very accurate.

Sailor Moon

Alright so I’ve been seeing a lot of revamped Sailor Moon fan stuff lately and I was just curious. Is there a reason for this? Are they starting to show the series again? Or is it just because the Manga are being reprinted in the United States again? I know I just bought the new apparel that Hot Topic is selling like the hoodie that I’m wearing and the t-shirt I’m wearing.

So tell me: What’s with all the hype? and Does anyone know where I can get the series on DVD for the English Dub.? Links would be nice.

I have yet to experience this but I know that one of my friend’s books is published through Amazon so I wonder if her book is going to be taken off….

ABookVacation's avatarBooks: The Cheapest Vacation You Can Buy

I logged on to Goodreads today (my favorite book site of all time), and as I was perusing some of the books I’ve recently read in order to begin writing their reviews, I came across a startling notice about one of the books I just finished:

“This edition is in danger of being removed from Goodreads. Will you rescue it? learn more”

So, of course I wanted to learn more because I had no idea what was happening.  This is what I learned, word for word, from Goodreads:

“Dear ABookVacation,

At Goodreads, we make it a priority to use book information from the most reliable and open data sources, because it helps us build the best experience for our members. To that end, we’re making a major change.

On January 30, Goodreads will no longer display book information that comes from Amazon.

This includes data such as titles, author names, page…

Midterms/Finals

So this week and next week is pretty much all tests and midterms for me, and I must say,  so far they’ve been pretty boring and easy. With the exception of the Pre-calc midterm that I did without a calculator. But there is still the AP Chem test that I have to take so that should be interesting.

Other than that all I have is a contest for Figment which ends on the 25th. They are fun contests, you need an account to be able to participate and a few friends to read through your stuff and heart it for you. I find them fun and entertaining, if you go on the contests page you can go vote for some of them once you get an account.

Well back to studying for stuff that I don’t have to study for… Hm… I should probably go write my letter of meta-cognition… But first I’m going to self-lessly promote my roleplaying site that I’m on… go to the side column and click on the little picture with the WM on it… it should say War Mage when you click on it. It’s fun and Tamora Pierce-y

Sherlock

So my friend has been ever so helpful in getting me hooked on yet ANOTHER tv show. This one? Sherlock. It is so amazing, even though I’ve only seen four of the six episodes. Yeah, well this is going to be interesting, now to watch the rest and wait for the new season. Yay sites that let me watch things at all hours of the night.

In other news, we have also been watching Sanctuary which is an amazing show as well, though it gets more hilarious and fanfiction worthy after you get to Nikola Tesla’s role in the show. Yes I said Nikola Tesla, who is played by the magnificent Jonathon Young, and is just awesome. But by all means don’t take my word for it you should go watch it for yourself and fall in love with Teslen like I did. (yes for those of you who know what that means, I do ship Teslen. I also ship Henry/Tesla though I ship Teslen more)

Well for now time to go back to puttering around on the internet. Those of you reading this go watch Sherlock or Sanctuary, and no like always I was not paid for promotion so get that out of your head right now. Hm… perhaps I shall also write fanfiction like my friend is currently doing…. yup sounds good to me….

New Years

So it’s new years eve, and I’m sitting here on my computer doing absolutely nothing… So I figured I’d post about what my crazy family is doing. My sister has two friends over and they are being entirely crazy. At first they were sitting on the floor and watching “I Still Psycho” or whatever it’s called, the new iCarly episode. And they were like SCREAMING… It was more scary than the show was.

Anyway so now I’m watching the two parts to the Sanctuary season finale. I LOVE it so much! First you have a depressed Nikola, who is so adorable and in need of a hug from Helen. Though I do feel bad for Henry, he has to deal with him. And then there’s that kiss, but that’s giving too much away, so I’ll stop there.

I hope you’re having a better New Year’s Eve, or New Year’s Day for those in time zones that are ahead of us. I shall be watching Sanctuary and reading books in hopes to finish a few before the new year. Why? Well because of the Goodreads challenge that you can find by clicking on the picture in my sidebar. Well Happy 2012 all, see you in the new year!

Author Contest

Alright so Maggie Stiefvater is having this give away for the end of the year. The parameters? Talk about one of your favorite blog posts that she’s written. Those who don’t have a favorite don’t qualify. Me being the author stalker that I am, I of course have a favorite blog post.

My favorite blog post would definitely have to be the one where she’s listing all of the things that she has to try and fit into her car. Mostly because it is a fairly large list for a fairly small car… The blog post can be found here: http://maggiestiefvater.blogspot.com/2011/07/square-peg-camaro-shaped-hole.html and the books that she writes can also be found there. It’s her blogger fan blog, but she has other ones as well.

You should totally read her books because they’re awesome! (No I was not paid to say this or told to say this in any way shape or form, I actually like them).  Anywho, Have fun exploring!

Christmas Goodies

So it’s Christmas here still, and I’m extremely happy with what I got for it. I got:

  • A Harry Potter T-shirt

  • $30 dollars for use on the internet
  • Earings: penguins and these crystal things
  • A stuffed penguin that was hugging a fleece blanket.
  • Extremely fuzzy socks that are blue
  • Gertrude Hawk dark chocolate raspberry Santas

I intend to use the $30 on the internet for at least one Rhapsody subscription and then maybe something else… but IDK I’ll figure it out… Well anyway… Happy Christmas ALL!!! Or holidays to those who don’t celebrate Christmas. I hope your day was wonderful all the same. Finally, GERTRUDE HAWK IS THE MOST AMAZING STUFF EVERR!!!
