Whodunnit?


So apparently there are colors on WordPress now… I didn’t know that.

Whodunnit?

Anyway, There’s this new tv show on ABC called Whodunnit? and I must say I’m totally nerding out about it. This show is basically CSI meets Clue meets Survivor or something. I’m not really sure how to classify it. But it started out with 13 people who show up at a mansion with a butler Giles. They seemingly have no idea what they’re there for and then one of the 13 dies. This is the premise for the entire show.

One of the original 13 was the killer, hidden among the crowd of people, his/her identity unknown to the rest. The rest of the 13 have to figure out how the victim was murdered down to the last twitch of the killers hand, and if they get it wrong the one who gets it the most wrong is the next to be killed. The watchers don’t know who the killer is anymore than the victims do, and the deaths are more than they seem. This is honestly the best puzzle/figure-it-out kind of game I’ve seen yet, and the Forensic Chemistry nerd in me is loving this more than I’d like to admit.

So as far as tv shows go, I would give this one a 9 out of 10, for keeping me entertained but being a little too cheesey for my liking.

The Blessed Unrest


There’s a new Sara Bareilles cd coming out on the 16th of July and for a limited time you can preview the entire thing on iTunes. I know a lot of people I talk to  don’t like the fact that there are songs on a cd that are as good as the other songs, but you can’t listen to them before you buy them. Now, this is probably an out dated notion now that we have iTunes and can listen to whatever song you want, but with this cd I was curious because it was there.

I didn’t need the entire preview of the cd. I was hooked after three songs. I would have probably bought it anyway if I had money, but now I  need to have that cd. I recommend you go and you listen to the preview, especially if you’re already a Sara Bareilles fan. It’s is an amazing album.

Computer problems


So my screen for my computer broke a while back and so I decided to cash in on the warranty which is due to expire in like a week. But it seems that my computer is too old to order parts, so they might have to junk it. Which means I lose literally everything on the computer unless I pay $100 to get it backed up and transferred. Remind me why I went to Best Buy?

Personal recommendation: Don’t go to Geek Squad unless you never want to see your computer again.

Kobo Mini


I am not being paid to say this! (I’m not being paid to say anything on this blog. Would it be nice? Yes, but it’s not happening).

So I’ve had the free Kobo app for a very long time. I got it because Borders was advertising it and was selling their eReaders for some time (before it closed of course). Well, after Borders went away I still had the Kobo app, but no real way to get a eReader to read the books on other than my laptop. 1.) eReaders in general were way too expensive 2.) I still preferred physical books. 3.) I didn’t have anywhere to buy the Kobo and I wasn’t getting a Kindle or a Nook because their books are way too expensive and their eReaders were even more expensive. But then just this past year the Kobo Mini came out and I swear it was love at first sight.

The Kobo Mini was nice because it was a touch screen, it was small (only a little bit bigger than an iPod Touch), and it had an anti-glare/anti-fingerprint screen. The best part about it however, is that it costed less than my cell phone did at the time. This eReader has web browsing capabilities, games, books (obviously), and other awesome features. Now you’re probably wondering why (since I got it five months ago) I am writing this now. Well, I have been receiving multiple requests for reviews and most of them are eBooks, and most of them are Kindle eBooks.

I always knew that the Kobo could handle ePub books and PDF files and .docx files, along with multiple picture files. But what I didn’t know until yesterday was that it also holds Mobi files. Apparently, this is the type of file that the Kindle apps use, or at least are capable of using them. That means that I can now carry Kindle books on my Kobo Mini. that is EXTREMELY convenient and amazing so I thought I’d share. Plus this thing is amazing and I love it and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an eReader but doesn’t want to pay a ton of money and carry something tablet sized around. (I mean come on if I wanted a tablet sized thing I’d buy a tablet, it’d probably cost less and do more).

Writing Blog


Okay so I have been posting links to a few of my stories on figment and other things. Some people have actually been clicking on the links and reading them? I think? But I’ve been double posting them on here and on my tumblog, so if you want to get more of that, I will probably post more writing on my writing tumblog as opposed to on here. So:

My writing blog: Tessa’s Escape (this is named after a character of mine since it used to be an original character roleplaying blog. But it changed to a writing blog).

Those two places are the main two places where you will find my writing, and if you want to read more please go there because I might not always double post. The tumblog has fanfiction, figment stories, nanowrimo excerpts, and the ability to give me prompts and request stories on it through my ask. The figment will just have contest entries and any other piece of writing I feel like sharing with the public. This way, if you want to read more of anything you can contact me through the comments and my ask and not on here. (But you can also comment on the posts on here if you like).

Amulet, Vol. 1: The Stonekeeper

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was recommended to me by my sister, and I thought it looked good based on the inside cover. But upon reading it, I got really bored halfway through. I don’t really know why, it just wasn’t all that interesting plot wise.

It’s basically about this family where the dad dies and they move to the country to get away from the high prices in the city and just “get more in touch with nature” (not a direct quote). When they start searching around the house they are living in now, the Em finds an amulet in her Great Grandfather’s old study (it’s his house by the way), and this amulet has strange and mysterious powers. You also see that there’s someone else in the house besides the family, someone dark and mischievous. That night there’s a noise in the basement and the mom goes to investigate, and gets taken by this creepy crawly into an amazing world that runs on the power of the amulet. The rest of the plot talks about Em finding her power and her mother with her brother Navin.

For the most part that sounds interesting right? Well, it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and to be honest I was a little disappointed.

Pretty Little Liars

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is the first of the series Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard. It follows the lives of 4 teenage girls who have a lot of secrets to hide, but one thing links them together. Alison DiLaurentis. She was the girl to be before she disappeared at the end of their 7th grade year. The girl that kept the four of them together, but also the one that each told their secrets that they didn’t want the others to know.

Aria: In love with her English now had even bigger secret to keep. But this one involved her dad. Emily: Could she have been in love with Alison way back when? Who is she in love with now? Spencer: Always stealing things from her sister, but did she take things too far? Hanna: How did she really get that skinny? There was only one person who knew; or so they thought. Could A be Alison come to haunt them? Or is it someone new?

This book was good, not exactly like the tv show, but that’s to be expected. I’m not quite sure if it’s better than the tv show though. There were some places where I didn’t like certain phrasing that Shepard used, places that stood out as bad. Normally that wouldn’t bother me in a fantastic book, but here it did. As far as plot goes however it was just as good as the show and it kept me turning the pages which awarded it the 4 stars. I read this in a very small amount of time for someone who has college to contend with, and I desperately want to read more. I don’t normally like realistic fiction type books, but these have become my new guilty pleasure of sorts. Definitely recommended if you want a guilty pleasure.

So there is a contest on Figment.com and I decided to enter it because I really loved the prizes and the prompt. So I put an entry up on the site and I just thought I’d put it on here so people knew what I was doing instead of the countless reviews that I should be doing (for which I apologize, I’ve been distracted by many other things). Count Down to NaNo


There are 5 hours until NaNoWriMo 2012 and I’m stuck doing physics homework. But that’s okay. I know I say this every time I do it, but I love NaNoWriMo. It’s totally awesome and insanely fun! If you don’t believe me you should try it! This is run by a non-profit organization, which runs solely on donations. So each year they ask for people to fundraise so that they can fund all of their other programs and programs for children. This year, for sponsorships they have a website where you can sign up for a funding page and have people donate to the organization.

Figment: Who Done It? Contest


So Figment.com has contests every once in a while, and sometimes I enter them just for the heck of it. This one was particularly fun because you needed to write an alibi for a fictitious murder that took place of an infamous editor. The contest ran until October 8th, and now voting runs until October 15th. Now I’m not saying that you should vote for me, because that would just feel like cheating.
