Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1)Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is the first of the series Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard. It follows the lives of 4 teenage girls who have a lot of secrets to hide, but one thing links them together. Alison DiLaurentis. She was the girl to be before she disappeared at the end of their 7th grade year. The girl that kept the four of them together, but also the one that each told their secrets that they didn’t want the others to know.

Aria: In love with her English now had even bigger secret to keep. But this one involved her dad. Emily: Could she have been in love with Alison way back when? Who is she in love with now? Spencer: Always stealing things from her sister, but did she take things too far? Hanna: How did she really get that skinny? There was only one person who knew; or so they thought. Could A be Alison come to haunt them? Or is it someone new?

This book was good, not exactly like the tv show, but that’s to be expected. I’m not quite sure if it’s better than the tv show though. There were some places where I didn’t like certain phrasing that Shepard used, places that stood out as bad. Normally that wouldn’t bother me in a fantastic book, but here it did. As far as plot goes however it was just as good as the show and it kept me turning the pages which awarded it the 4 stars. I read this in a very small amount of time for someone who has college to contend with, and I desperately want to read more. I don’t normally like realistic fiction type books, but these have become my new guilty pleasure of sorts. Definitely recommended if you want a guilty pleasure.

Wicked Business

Wicked Business (Lizzy & Diesel, #2)Wicked Business by Janet Evanovich

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book follows Diesel and Lizzy on their hunt for the second SALIGIA stone. This stone is the Luxuria stone and it is rumored to give people unrestrained lust when they are in possession of it. The basic characters are back for the crazy adventure, Diesel, Lizzy, Glo, Clara, Wulf, and Hatchet. It follows the same basic plot, Diesel is trying to get to the stone and the tablet before Wulf does, but this one has a few extra twists and turns. From Diesel and Lizzy’s love interests heating up, to a new mean and nasty that comes and tries to foil all of their plans, to explosions and some temporarily lost powers. But I won’t say much more because you should read it for yourself. What I will say is this:

This wasn’t as good as the first one, for some reason it didn’t seem as funny and entertaining. It has much more geographical stuff, like streets and mountains and scenery. One thing I did like was the fact that we got to see more of Glo because she’s awesome and she reminds me of Kenzi from Lost Girl.
description

Who is really very funny and awesome. I also liked that this search was more intellectual, you actually needed to think in order to find the clues and it was fun to have all of the different quotes. Then there was the Hatchet torture which wasn’t really torture but it was funny. Oh Glo, you need to learn how to use that book just a little bit better. One of my favorite quotes from this book was

Perhaps we should have relations sir so that I can get your powers and take over

That is probably misquoted but I read the book like 4 days ago.

So you should go read the book! Because there’s more awesome stuff in the book than what I just said.

Book Blogging

Okay so I recently put my blog on a list of book bloggers, and honestly it’s pretty cool. So for the next few posts it’s going to be mostly book reviews. Right now I’m reading the first book that someone requested I write a review of, and so far I must say it’s really interesting. It’s called Blood Skies by Steven Montano. It sounds like something straight out of a Stargate show.  It is set up very interestingly so far. Granted, I’m still in the prologue but as of right now it’s following a disembodied entity that is observing an almost futuristic city. With the disembodied entity is another one, a female, and so far that’s it.

There was one quote though that I really liked, and will probably be in the full review later with this long description as to how it reminded me of Stargate and lots of nerdy stuff. Anyway, the book is really good so far. More of a review to come.

The Quote

“Her form corrodes, reforms, comes together once more in a shimmering rain that trails him like a spectral wake.”

Gregor the Overlander

Gregor the Overlander (Underland Chronicles, #1)Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was so much better than The Hunger Games, it kind of makes me wonder what happened with The Hunger Games. It’s the same author, but the writing styles are so different! So is the plot line.

It follows the adventure of Gregor and his little sister Boots, two kids who live in New York City. From the start of the story you learn that Gregor’s father is missing, and it seems that he just up and left. But Gregor soon discovers that that is not the case when his sister crawls through a rather large air vent in their laundry room. This air vent leads them to a place far underneath the City that seems almost like Hollow Earth from the Sanctuary tv series. It is a vast underground place made completely of stone.

It here that Gregor finds a city full of people, but they don’t quite look the same as us. They are called the Underlanders, as opposed to Overlanders which is what Gregor is. They introduce Gregor to a prophecy that holds the key to what happened to his father. But I won’t go into that because you’ll have to find that out for yourselves.

I personally liked this a lot. It made me laugh, and cry and a whole bunch of other things.

Rampant by Diana Peterfreund

Rampant (Killer Unicorns, #1)Rampant by Diana Peterfreund

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love this book! It is so funny and awesome!

Okay this book is about a girl named Astrid who gets sent on this crazy quest by her mother to learn how to kill Unicorns. Okay I know what’s going through your head, “Unicorns? But they’re so pretty and graceful.” Right? Well you’re wrong, these unicorns are not the ones you grew up learning about. They’re deadly and venimous, they also have an attraction to the Hunters. Which causes problems for Astrid because she’s one of them. Through the training to and the actual killing of the unicorns Astrid has decided that she hates her mother and everything that this destiny involves.

But things aren’t so bad not when you have a HOT Italian-American who is in Italy for a language immersian program, and wants nothing more than to spend all of his time with you. This adorable guy’s name is Giovanni in this book and he is crazy adorable. I must say that I want one! Other than that, if you’re looking for a suspicious character, adventure and endless amounts of hilarious sarcasm you should totally read this book.

Oh but beware, if you read in the woods you might want to take care because unicorns, they’re everywhere.
